Development began in Norway in 2018 after the need emerged for an window capable of meeting ambitious architectural and thermal goals.
What began as a response to one technical problem gradually developed into a new window architecture—frameless inside, protected outside and designed to accommodate serviceable technology.

From one problem to a complete system
2018
Development begins in Norway after the need emerges for an outward-opening window capable of meeting ambitious architectural and thermal goals.
Autum 2019
The first physical Soliston prototype is completed. It establishes the fundamental relationship between the wall, glazing and outward-opening construction.
2019–2023
Patent protection for the energy-saving overlap between the construction and glazing is filed and granted nationally. A European patent application is also filed, but limited development funding means it cannot be carried through. This forces the European application to be allowed to lapse in autumn 2023, while the technical work continues.
Spring 2023
After years of development, the concealed locking principle is solved. This makes it possible to combine outward opening, a frameless interior and accessible operating technology within one coherent window system.
2024–2025
A new international patent application protecting the integrated window and locking system receives a positive international examination and is published in 2025. The examined claims are found novel, inventive and industrially applicable.
2026
The first complete residential pilot installation is finished in Norway. The windows are installed, operational and being evaluated in everyday use.

Now
Soliston is preparing for industrial production, complete performance verification and a limited number of selected first projects.

Soliston now brings together an international team whose members contribute decades of experience across product development, construction, engineering, electronics, business, law and administration.
Different perspectives and practical expertise are united by one objective: bringing this new window architecture into enduring industrial production.
Halldór Gunnar Halldórsson
An Icelandic product developer based in Norway with over 30 years of hands-on building-industry experience, Halldor originated Soliston in 2018. He has led its architectural and technical development—from early profiles, locks and prototypes through patenting, electronics and pilot production to installation of the first complete residential Soliston system.
Harley Truong
Australian and based in Australia, Harley has an engineering background and a record of building successful technical businesses. He co-founded LogikHaus, which supplies high-performance European windows and doors to the Australian market. Within Soliston, he contributes engineering judgement, product insight and long-term company strategy.
Andres Viljasaar
Estonian and based in Estonia, Andres brings three decades of experience from the European electronics industry. He founded Navestel, providing electronics design, component supply, manufacturing and supply-chain services. Within Soliston, he applies that experience to electronics, sensors, connectivity and power systems for the Soliston platform.
Kristján Þór Skúlason
Icelandic and based in Norway, Kristjan brings decades of hands-on experience spanning single-handed commercial fishing in the North Atlantic and construction. He now leads a company supplying and installing interior finishes for residential developments. Within Soliston, he contributes practical knowledge of construction, installation and project delivery.
Valdimar Geir Halldórsson
Icelandic and based in Iceland, Valdimar combines long hands-on building experience with a strong record of starting and developing businesses across several industries. He now runs construction services in Iceland, bringing practical insight into operations and company building. Within Soliston, he contributes administration, operations and company support.
Karl Georg Sigurbjörnsson
Icelandic and based in Reykjavík, Karl brings decades of experience in law, contracts, litigation, corporate matters and international business. He has founded and led legal and property businesses and supports cross-border cooperation. Within Soliston, he is responsible for legal activities, agreements, company structure and overall governance.
